Nancy Pelosi appeared to struggle significantly as she attempted to criticize President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” stumbling over her words while opposing a legislative measure that promises substantial tax relief for seniors, which prompted conservatives to harshly mock the aging leftist politician online.
In a speech delivered at an anti-Trump rally on May 21, 2025, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” labeling it a “reverse Robin Hood” scheme while faltering in her speech throughout the excruciatingly lengthy seven minutes. Following the release of a clip from Pelosi’s tirade on X, conservatives ridiculed the 85-year-old Democrat, humorously suggesting that she might have been intoxicated during her address.
During her speech, Pelosi asserted that the “Big, Beautiful Bill” was “A Republican reverse Robin Hood,” further stating, “They are taking from people who should have it, who — need to help — and giving to the richest people in America—just a — just as they did in 2017.” She went on to say, “The last time they held the White House and the majority in Congress, they, um, they enacted a tax bill that allocated 83% of the benefits to the top 1%. To the top 1%! It’s sinful. It’s immoral. It’s wrong.”
Subsequently, Pelosi’s remarks became increasingly disjointed as she endeavored to argue against the Trump Administration, stating, “But let me say this, because I think it’s important to know. We’re saying they’re cutting Medicaid and SNAP and all that to pay for their tax cut. No. They’re taking their tax cut no matter what. They don’t care if it’s paid for or not. What they’re trying to do is undo governance for the people—undo Medicare, undo Medicaid, undo Social Security.
Subsequently, the former House Speaker characterized the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ as ‘a more extensive scheme than their typical tax [unintelligible],’ further stating, ‘Previously, they asserted their fiscal responsibility, claiming, uh, ‘We cannot provide for the children as it would increase the national debt, yet we can offer tax reductions to the wealthiest individuals in America.’”
In her attempt to elaborate, Pelosi faltered in her speech, stating that a prior bill contributed ‘an additional $2 trillion in 19 —uh, pardon me — in 2017 — it increased the national debt by $2 trillion! This time, mere pocket change! They’re (sic) looking to add $4.5 trillion to the national debt!’ As the audience erupted in boos, Pelosi persisted, ‘Now, concurrently, they are discussing cutting a trillion dollars — over $700 billion from Medicaid and $300 billion from SNAP. Just that: a trillion dollars.’
Further adding to the peculiar nature of her discourse, Pelosi asserted that with the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ President Trump was removing ‘food from the mouths of infants’ and placing ‘money into the pockets (sic) of billionaires.’ She continued, ‘However, we must remain optimistic, for in ’17, when they enacted their measures, in ’18, with the support of many of you, we organized 10,000 events nationwide to protect the Affordable Care Act.’
When the conservative influencer Merica posted a clip from Pelosi’s speech on X, she quickly turned Pelosi into the subject of ridicule, stating, ‘Either she just suffered a stroke, or she is intoxicated! As long as these individuals continue to represent the Democrats, MAGA continues to prevail!’ In reply, a commenter added, ‘I’m casting my vote as ‘Drunk!’
