Bongino Announces Major Arrest In Attack Against U.S. Border Agents

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has declared a significant arrest in a case concerning rock assaults against federal immigration officials, which resulted in one agent being injured.

Bongino, along with other federal representatives, stated that a man from Compton, accused of launching concrete blocks at federal officers in Paramount in June, was apprehended on Wednesday morning at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Elpidio Reyna, 39, from Compton, was taken into custody at the San Ysidro Port of Entry by FBI agents, with support from U.S. Customs & Border Protection, as reported by Fox11.

Reyna was sought in relation to an alleged attack on a federal officer in Paramount on June 7. The FBI indicated that Border Patrol had set up a staging area when they were confronted by protesters. The situation intensified as instigators began throwing concrete blocks and glass bottles at the authorities, leading agents to deploy tear gas, according to the report.

Footage acquired by Fox depicts Border Patrol agents retreating from the tumultuous scene on Saturday as their vehicle was bombarded with rocks.

“You may recall Elpidio Reyna, an individual who purportedly threw rocks at federal officers during immigration operations in California on June 7,” Bongino posted on his official FBI X account. “We apprehended him. He was arrested today at the U.S.-Mexico border.”

He further stated: “More information will follow. Those who assault America’s law enforcement officers may attempt to flee, but they cannot evade justice.”

The FBI utilized social media footage and a FOX 11 news segment to identify the suspect as Reyna. It was reported that one federal officer sustained injuries during the incident, and several government vehicles were damaged.

“Elpidio Reyna surrendered today at the U.S.-Mexico border to face a felony charge of assault on a federal officer for throwing rocks at passing law enforcement vehicles in Paramount on June 7,” remarked U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli on the X platform.

“He was apprehended by a U.S. Border Patrol officer who was present in one of the vehicles that sustained damage during the assault — a courageous law enforcement official who could have lost their life in last month’s perilous and irresponsible attack,” he remarked.

“For those who believe they can assault federal officers while concealing their identity with a mask or helmet, Reyna’s arrest today demonstrates that we are capable of locating and prosecuting anyone who breaches federal law. Do not harm our officers,” he emphasize
