Video Of Murdered Minn. Democrat Shows Her Upset After Migrant Funding Vote

A news report featuring an interview with Melissa Hortman, the Emerita Speaker of the Minnesota House, has gained significant attention online. In the interview, she appeared visibly distressed regarding her vote against funding healthcare for undocumented immigrants in her state.

The video emerged just one day following the tragic murder of Hortman and her husband, Mark, at their residence in Brooklyn Park. In a different incident occurring in Champlin, State Senator John Hoffman and his spouse, Yvette, were also shot multiple times; however, they have managed to survive.

Authorities have named 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter as the individual being sought in relation to the early-morning shootings.

During the news report, Hortman expressed profound emotion as she recounted her decision to vote against the inclusion of this provision in a contentious budget agreement with the Republicans, who hold the majority in the Minnesota House. There has been speculation that she felt “terrified” by her vote, which took place mere days before her tragic death.

Hortman was affiliated with the Democratic Farm Labor Party, which is connected to the national Democratic Party.

The choice to cut healthcare funding for undocumented immigrants in the state arose as the Minnesota program faced significant budget overruns. However, there are online speculations suggesting that the reason for Hortman’s murder was her dissenting vote against the provision, rendering her the only DFL member of her caucus to oppose it.

Boelter, on the other hand, remains at large after escaping on foot following a shootout with law enforcement at the Hortman residence. He abandoned a counterfeit police SUV equipped with emergency lights.

Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley confirmed that a manifesto found in the suspect’s vehicle named several lawmakers and officials, including Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman, as intended targets. The “No Kings” flyers, which were previously reported by the Minnesota State Patrol, have come under scrutiny for their apparent link to nationwide protests scheduled for Saturday that oppose President Trump’s policies.

“During our search of the vehicle, we discovered a manifesto that identified numerous lawmakers and other officials. We promptly alerted the state to ensure security wherever it was needed,” Bruley stated during a press conference.

Authorities, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have denounced the shootings as acts of violence that are “politically motivated.” In response, the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to assist in the ongoing manhunt for the suspect.

The State Patrol released a statement advising against attending the “No Kings” protests, referencing the overnight attacks: “In light of the targeted shootings of state lawmakers, we are urging the public to refrain from attending today’s planned demonstrations across Minnesota out of an abundance of caution.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Boelter is identified as the CEO of Red Lion Group, a company located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is also recognized as the director of Praetorian Guard Security Services, a security firm reportedly founded by his wife, as stated on the company’s website.

“For the past three years, I have been engaged in projects within the Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa alongside the Red Lion Group,” Boelter mentioned on his LinkedIn profile last month, indicating that he is presently seeking employment.

Boelter possesses a comprehensive background in security, with documented experience across Africa, North America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, including the Gaza Strip, as stated on the Praetorian Guard Security Services website. The site highlights that he has undergone training from U.S. military personnel and private companies, showcasing images of tactical equipment and law enforcement-style attire.
